Sally McGregor, mother of Abbie (3/4HK) and Charlie (1/2JS), has offered to chop her long hair off (not shave!) to help raise awareness and money for two charities: Variety NSW Princess Charlotte Alopecia Program and the McGrath Foundation.

The Variety NSW Princess Charlotte Alopecia Program sells donated hair to wig makers who will then use the hair to make wigs for people who have medical hair loss. Variety then, in turn, use the funds raised to have a wig custom made (over $3000 for one wig) for a child suffering alopecia. Alopecia is a type of hair loss that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, which is where hair growth begins. The condition is not life threatening and does not cause pain or illness.

On Friday 18th September (last day of Term 3) at 1:00pm in the hall, Sally is going to have a very public cutting of her hair. She will then donate her hair to Variety.

Would you like to join Sally in the BIG CHOP? Perhaps you were thinking of having a haircut soon? If your hair is at least 30cm long from point of cut, has no permanent colour, no grey and no perm….then why not give Sally some moral support and have your hair cut with Sally and donate it to Variety? I am sadly ruled out as I have short hair, permanent colour and greys (some could possibly even be white!). Come and have a chat to me if you are brave! Sally would be grateful as would the children we are supporting.

Thanks, Maree Brosolo.
